Celebrate the Holidays with Handmade Gifts from Craftland

Craftland on Westminster Street Offers Thousands of Handmade Items from Artists and Crafters Nationwide

Providence, RI November 25, 2009—Craftland, the now year-round store, kicks off an expanded handmade shopping experience on December 4 with the 8th annual Craftland Show. The Show features fresh products from 170 artists from around New England and the entire country. Craftland, located at 235 Westminster Street, is the city’s premiere destination for handmade goods by independent artists—from one-of-a-kind craft items to fine art pieces.

Craftland is the antidote for the strip mall shopping blues and offers one-stop holiday shopping. Guests will find thousands of thoughtfully made items from handmade housewares and masterfully-crafted handbags, to adorable stuffed animals, cozy crocheted and knitted goods, one-of-a-kind art pieces, beautiful books, clothing, and our now-famous print wall, featuring dozens of screen printed pieces in a variety of prices and sizes.

With prices from $1 to $300, there are handmade goodies for every budget. And gifts purchased at Craftland reflect the spirit of the festive season. Not only is more than half of Craftland's inventory made from from Rhode Island crafters, but 5% of our December proceeds go to Girls Rock RI, helping girls and women empower themselves through the development of musical skills.

The expanded Craftland Show runs from December 4 - 31, 2009 and is open even days a week 10am - 6pm. The store is open late Thursdays and Saturdays 10am - 8pm. In addition to the regular shopping hours, there are several special events scheduled for 2009:

* Craftland Show Opening Party: December 4, 5-9pm. The first 300 shoppers will receive the highly-coveted goodie bags.
* Girls Rock RI Party: December 9, 6-9pm
* Buy Art Reception: December 10, 5-8pm
* Hive O'Clock Happy Hour Workshop: Dec. 15th, 5:30-7pm! $10
* Meet the Artists Evening: December 17th, 5-8pm

But unlike the holidays, Craftland doesn't end in December. Fun and quirky handmade gifts can now be found year-round at the Craftland Shop, also located at 235 Westminster Street.

"Craftland is a wonderful venue to sell traditional and innovative crafts. It is more than a craft show. As a veteran of many a craft show, they are doing something different- they champion the creative and daring. They take risks. The organizers do an amazing job of curating an eclectic mix of truly unique goods. The sales from Craftland also provide highly needed income for hundreds of artist/crafters. Every year I am inspired by the amount of effort everyone involved invests in this endeavor. Everything about the space is handmade or amended. I would not want to live in a Providence without Craftland."
